Walking Tour, Hidden Churches

The real treasures of Bucharest are hidden behind the curtain of socialist blocks on the big boulevards of the city. There are churches that are part of the architectural heritage, built 300-400 years ago, places of worship that have passed many tests over time.

Before 1989, when Nicolae Ceausescu saw a church, he ordered its demolition. Thus, after the earthquake of 1977, by his order, 22 places of worship in Bucharest were demolished. Wherever the communists built the boulevards of socialist victory or where the House of the People was to be built, the churches had or would have the same fate. However, there were houses that escaped, thanks to a strategy that simply involved moving them physically from one place to another.

This tour is about these churches and their unusual story.
