Codorníu Discovery Tour

We invite you to a captivating journey to the origins of cava:

Codorníu is synonymous with the history of a family of viticulturists dating back to the 16th century. It is the oldest family business in Spain and one of the oldest in the world. It currently has a history of over 450 years.

In 1895, Manuel Raventós, the great promoter of Codorníu, hired the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch (a contemporary of Gaudí) to expand the winery. The building he built symbolizes the fruitful alliance between nature and human contribution and is a stone tribute to the silence of the cave. Since 1976, the Codorníu building has been a historical-artistic monument and one of the most impressive examples of architecture dedicated to the production and aging of the cellar.

In 1872, Josep Raventós Fatjó first produced cava in Spain using the traditional method and using local Penedés grapes: Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. In this way, he established a completely new industry in the region and linked the Codorníu brand to the history of cava.

In this experience, the tours are always guided by Codorníu staff and last about an hour and a half. During the tour, the process of making a bottle of Cava and the history of this house are explained. After the arrival of the participants at the reception, known as the Cava Cathedral, the participants will admire the modernist architectural complex of the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and will enjoy a tour by electric train through the underground cellars.

At the end of the visit, there will be a tasting of two types of premium cava, and participants can visit the Codorníu shop where they can buy all the products of the house at special prices.
